Disaster Relief

There have been so many recent natural disasters, we've all been left asking, "What more can we do?"

Come find out.

The West Jackson Disaster Response Team will hold a meeting here at Parkway Hills UMC on Thursday, September 19th, at 6 pm
to help us learn more about working with a team.
A response team fills a specific need after a disaster to establish the caring presence of the church and to provide hope for the survivors. Through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)/ United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) partnership, you can serve with a team (typically 10-16 persons) or as an individual. Volunteers need to be in relatively good health, complete an application form, be willing to pay his/her own way or help raise team funds, and agree to attend training sessions conducted by the team leader prior to departure. Anyone interested in working with a response team is encouraged to attend!

Yarn Ministry

Have a Ball with the Yarn Ministry!

Still looking for your place at Parkway Hills? We invite you to "have a ball" with the Yarn Ministry!

This is a joyful group who meet regularly in the home of a member to knit and crochet gifts of love and comfort. The group has created baby blankets, prayer shawls, hats and scarves, even socks and slippers! Right now, we are working on adult-sized afghans to cover those who are in need of a little hug from God. Work is done on your own time and at your own pace, but we love getting together to socialize, share patterns and tips, have a time of devotion, and pray over our finished items.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, September 14th, from 9 am to noon, or as long as your schedule will allow. This month we will meet at Rebecca Olack's house.

GROW in service as you develop a new skill to use for God's glory. We are happy to teach anyone who is interested! REALLY. ANYONE.
Still have questions? Contact Shelley Powers

Wednesday Night ReTreat Dinners

Join us for dinner at 5:30, then stay for a program for your age group!

QUICK TIP... If you regularly pay for dinner by debit/credit card, consider paying by text! Just text the dollar amount you owe for dinner, followed by the word dinner to 601-509-4735. (Example: $23 dinner) The first time you do this, you'll need to register your debit/credit card infomation; after that, it's as quick and easy as sending a text. You and the church receive an email confirmation of your payment right away.

Of course, we still take cash and checks, ($7 for adult meal, $4 for children, with a $23 family maximum), however, paying by debit/credit card via text is so convenient. You can set it up now from home, then skip the line next Wednesday - simply wave at Bob and Shelley on your way in!

Epic of Eden Bible Study (Watch a short preview here) will be our adult class on Wednesday nights beginning September 11th
This study gives us a "grasp of the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Old Testament" and how it relates to God's activity in the present.

One Service Sunday - 10 a.m.

For the months of June and July, we will not be "Early Service People" and "Late Service People"; but simply, "Parkway Hills People"! Small groups will meet at 9 am, then we will worship together as one at 10 am. Use this time to practice WELCOME, by meeting the other half of your church family. Then, GROW by shaking things up a bit!  8:30 folks... how about singing in the choir for the next 2 months? 10:45 folks... try sitting in a different spot each week and get to know the others on your row. Find new ways to SERVE by learning what other members are involved in, or get to know the children of our church by helping with Vacation Bible School. When we resume our regular schedule in August, just think how much more we'll have to CELEBRATE!

Listening During Lent Guest Pastor | Rev. Eddie Spencer

Mark your calendar for April 7th. On that day, Rev. Eddie Spencer will be our guest speaker at the 10:45 service. Eddie has been the Pastor of Church and Society at Galloway UMC for almost 6 years; he does an amazing job connecting with the men and women of Grace Place, Galloway's ministry with the homeless. (You can read a little about it HERE.) Eddie will close out our Listening During Lent series by sharing how he has heard God in his life. (Spoiler Alert: We are talking about a dramatic prison encounter that kept him from murdering two fellow inmates! This man KNOWS that nothing is impossible with our God who specializes in transforming lives!) He will share some of his story and can answer questions you might have about the ministry at Grace Place. *We will have copies of his book available to purchase for $15 on that day.
