Adult Spiritual Formation

“How is it with your soul?” This historic Wesleyan question is at the center of our belief in spiritual formation through small group connection. No matter where you are in life or faith, we believe some of the most important growth occurs when people gather to share their lives and seek God together. Parkway Hills offers a variety of ways to get connected. Please let us know if we can help find the right fit for you!

Adult Sunday School

We currently have four active adult Sunday School classes which meet at 9:30am on Sundays. These classes use a variety of study material to consider how we should live as followers of Christ. Currently all of our adult classes are either entirely online or offer a hybrid option. Call the church office or email info@parkwayhillsumc.org for more info. • Discovery: Meets in Education Building 108, led by Charles Guess. The Discovery class focuses on how we should live our lives. They seek to apply each week's lesson from the Adult Bible Study series to daily life, and they enjoy sharing their blended experiences and supporting each other.

  • Grace: Meets in Education Building 203, led by Harry Gilmer. Grace class materials are selected based on interest, usually a book or a video series. Focus of each study is to seek to understand God’s role in our world, our place in the world, and our responsibilities to God, our planet and all of humanity. An open-discussion forum is how the class is structured, providing a safe place to ask any questions.

  • Open Doors: Meets in Education Building 201, led by Brandon Jones. This multi-generational, discussion-based class using the Adult Bible Study series as well as alternate materials as starting points to spark deep and lively discussions that are drawn from a varied collection of life experiences.

  • Renew: Meets in Education Building 202, led by Dawn Flowers and Bobby Stephenson. The Renew class is a group diverse in age that studies through a wide range of curriculum from book studies to video discussions, to questions around topics of the day. Renew makes an effort to fellowship together through the year as well as take some time off breaking for a few weeks around Christmas and Easter as well as the summer months of June and July, as many in this class have school-aged children.

Weekly, monthly, & seasonal meetings

In addition to Sunday mornings, several affinity groups gather in person, remotely, or hybridized to welcome, grow, serve, and celebrate together.

  • Men’s Breakfast Group (Thursdays at 7:15am): An informal weekly gathering in-person at PHUMC and via Zoom to explore the lectionary texts together.

  • Women’s Zoom Brunch (Saturdays at 10am): A relaxed time to meet as you are able, check in, share prayer concerns, and stay connected.

  • Prayer Quilt Ministry (Mondays from Noon to 3pm): This service group shares a brown bag lunch and time in prayer in addition to their work serving our community.

  • Theology on Tap (4th Tuesday of each month): This spirited gathering discusses denominational differences as well as interfaith perspectives, often inviting a variety of guests to share about their background and experiences.  (Currently inactive)

  • Yarn Ministry Team (Every other month): Our yarners include time for spiritual reflection and prayer along with their work.

  • Grace Place (1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month): Twice a month these volunteers spend their Wednesday morning serving our neighbors through Galloway UMC’s Grace Place ministry.

  • Wednesday Night Re:Treat: We will resume our Wednesday night gatherings January 17, 24, 31; February 7,21, 28; and March 6 and 20. Take a retreat from worrying about supper, come eat, fellowship, and get to know your Parkway Hills family. Meal begins at 5:45 in the Worship Center and is followed by activities for all from 6:20 to 7:15. A nursery will be provided for ages 2 and under. Meals are $9 for ages 13 and older, $5 for kids, and a $27 family max. We require an RSVP by the Sunday before so that we may be good stewards of our resources. You may RSVP via the tear-off strip on the bulletin on Sunday, by calling the church office, or a week in advance via the online newsletter link each week.
