Mission Possible Kids

Parkway Hills Mission Possible Kids is an active mission program for kindergarten through fourth grade children, designed to make mission and ministry an integral part of kids' lives. By focusing on God's call to love and serve others, MPKids learn to see themselves as God's hands and feet in the world, responding to the needs of people in very real and specific ways. We meet weekly during the school year and carry out numerous projects to help people in our own community, across the U.S., and in many other countries. As part of every mission, we learn a little about the lives, culture, countries, and beliefs of the people we are serving and about the importance of respecting people whose circumstances are different from our own.

Our most recent mission was making shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child. We have completed numerous missions over the last several years, including collecting "Pennies for Playgrounds" at Bethlehem Center in Jackson; creating origami cranes with personal messages for young tsunami victims in Japan; collecting eyeglasses and sunglasses for an eye clinic in Cameroon; an annual "Reverse Trick or Treat" in which kids wear Halloween costumes and take treats to elderly residents of a retirement home in Madison; making cards and pictures for sick and elderly members of our congregation; packaging meals to be distributed by Stop Hunger Now! to earthquake victims in Haiti; creating cards, pictures, and special Christmas garlands for troops in Afghanistan and Iraq; raising money for 18 school scholarships in Honduras and corresponding with the children we sponsor; making popsickle stick houses and welcome signs for Madison County Habitat for Humanity homeowners; holding a Valentine party housewarming for a Habitat homeowner's family; and many others. One of our favorite churchwide projects was a shoe drive in which church members came to the altar on "Barefoot Sunday" and left their shoes for MPKids to collect, count, and package for worldwide distribution by Soles4Souls.
